Just another day’s life

February 18th, 2008 by white-flame

guess so… nothing special happened. unless you consider me going for a jog as special, since i do it once in a blue moon.

just another day… breakfast, pbl, lectures, lunch, sending car to workshop for maintanence, games, jog, dinner, library… and now here right in front of my laptop, with my phone radio turned on. LITE.fm and MIX.fm are my favourites.

weather’s ok here… sunny hours and rainy hours alternating with each other, with the sunny side longer. had to walk to faculty today, car has to be grounded due to low engine oil. hadn’t sweat like that under the sun since before i brought my car here, lols.

well, continue studying now i guess. damn i miss the part in secondary school where last minute study is still not a problem.

wow… it’s been a while since i wrote my last entry here…

had a bad start for chinese new year. got a sore throat and fever for like… 4-5 days again. zzz… couldn’t eat new year stuff!!! wargh!!! and now i’m back here in kuching… with all the food back AT HOME. so though i’m well now, i CAN’T eat those biscuits…!!! what a disappointment… bah! what the heck… should’ve brought more biscuits to kuching!!! REGRET!!!

sometimes i find it hard to get the right word… this evening, i forgot to take my umbrella from the library and went back to take it, only to find it missing. then i called the guard and asked about my umbrella. of course, it’s in BM. so i asked, " erm… tadi saya lupa ambil… er… erm… saya… ???" indeed the word would be "payung" (BM term for umbrella) but i was thinking "pisang"… well, five-lettered-word, starts with "p" and ends with "ng", just like "payung"… duh. well… anyways, the guard understood what i was looking for. "payung?" "ah ya… payung…" got it back in the end. muaha.

it’ll be my last pbl next week… gonna be missing pbl 5…

Dream in a Dream

September 10th, 2007 by white-flame

ever had a dream in a dream?

having bad/sweet/mixed experiences and finding yourself waking up the next moment. things go on and, huh? you woke up again??? haha…

i’ve had it a few times… recent one was about my car (the only part i remembered in the whole thing) was driving and all (usual routine stuff and all) drive, drive, drive, then stopped. smelled something. burning smell. walao! car got heated up! smoke coming out from bonnet! got out, moved away from it. the best/weird part about it is that my car melted, real fast. some overheating huh… got emotional too =.=" not because of the car melting episode, but how to face my dad when he finds out… i was thinking i forgot to do the routine check on the radiator water… panic, panicked. then suddenly "woke up", with my car in front of me, still in good shape =.=" then went of with the usual life, think about that weird "dream"… then woke up again(?!) =.=" =.="

today, just came back from library. that time listened to liteFM cause the celaka librarian making hell lot of noise keeping/arranging the books and chairs. duh! did he know that he’s in a library?? that he’s a librarian?!

anyway, back to the liteFM thing. see, they have this love zone thing, in the night (not sure of the time frame) anyway (again), this guy called to dedicate a song to this girlfriend studying medicine in russia. obviously we would be thinking’ "what? can liteFM’s frequency reach russia?" or "how could she know of his dedication thing when she’s in russia where there’s no liteFM".

then the dj offered to call her, and i was like "wow"… and he called her, then connected the guy with the gal, on air… whoa, that’s really cool… wonder if the station paid for that call???

It’s great to learn that both the physio teams from unimas got both the top 2 places in the recent physio quiz competition.

Indeed, i was a little surprised and happy and proud of my friends who participated. seriously, they beat the pro people from universities like NUS and the university from Taiwan and Hong Kong. And UM.

Ah, UM. This is an especially interesting team. First of all, i really didn’t expect them to lose that bad. Well, que sera sera. UM’s standard is dropping anyways. It’s interesting why many people still look up so high at them… count me out…

Dah-lah lose, support NUS some more…

According to my friends, during the round between NUS and UNIMAS, the UM team (already lost, didn’t even make it to the semis - real surprise? nah)
came to watch, sitting behind the other UNIMAS team in the audience. They overheard talking about supporting NUS. When they knew that NUS was against UNIMAS, they "oh, UNIMAS…" as if our teams were nothing and will surely lose to NUS (the pros). Making the "oooh" and "awww" sounds of disappointment everytime NUS got the answer wrong.

It’s sad they won’t even support their own countrymen and instead opted to support NUS. What, they think they’re the best in Malaysia? Think that if they lost, no other universities from Malaysia can be champion?

How wrong they were. When the UNIMAS team beat the NUS team, one of my friends (in the audience) looked at another friend and leaned back so that the UM team behind could hear and said to the other friend "eh, what happened to UM ah? i heard they got kicked out. out…" (with gestures) the UM team who were so noisy fell silent… aww man… that’s so cool! so cool! bravo!

Haih, the UM team, dah-lah malu kalah awal, want to tambah malu lagi? or they memang tak tau malu? talk about patriotism during the 50th merdeka year… =="

it’s not that i wanna talk bad about the UM team, but i think this issue of supporting NUS is really not good. Shows how they easily look down on people. Memang patut they lose after all. haih…

Block 7, eh…

August 21st, 2007 by white-flame

Yup, the gastrointestinal block a.k.a. Block 7 has just started this week! every time i mentioned "block system" people will go "huh?" and i’ll have to explain it over and over and over and over and… for my course, instead of studying in semesters, i’m studying in blocks. A block consists of everything related to the theme or title of the block. For example, in this block, i learn everything: anatomy, physiology, pathology, histology, biochemistry, pharmacology, microbiology (with related immunology and lab tests), epidemiology, family health and trips, clinical sessions (eg. clerking patients and presenting their cases), and Problem-Based Learning (PBL) that are related to the gastrointestinal system. If it’s musculoskeletal block, then it’s all about musculoskeletal system. If it’s endocrine block… you get the picture, right?

This block seems to be more packed that the earlier one. So i guess it’s back to busy life again. Trying not to play video games on weekdays. Hope to reduce on weekends too. So far so good…

About two more months and it’ll be over. Done with. End of Block 7.

Things that irritate me at some moments…

Girls’ shoes that have a hard soles

Imagine you’re in a library studying/reading so ever peacefully… and suddenly, *clack*, *clack*, *clack*, *clack*, *clack* (real loud)…

Really, why can’t they just wear those shoes with flat and soft soles that wouldn’t make much of a noise when going to these places?? What’s worse, some of them who realized that they’re making the noise didn’t give a damn about it and just kept on walking. What? Announcing their damn "grand" arrival?

Try using proper sounds like the sound of kompangs or trumpets then. What? No money and access to those? Ok, *clack*, *clack*, *clack*, *clack*, *clack*…

Some attitude about money

The water heater at "my" house in Kuching here has malfunctioned. Some of us do think it should be repaired so we can use it for cold hours. When asked for opinions, one of my housemates said that we don’t have to repair it, to save money on repairs and the electricity bill. Really, how much can you save? We don’t even know if the landlady will ask us to pay. And it’s for cold hours or when someone gets sick and has a fever.

What I really, really wanted to say to her is, "You want to talk about saving? Look at yourself in the mirror. Just to get a suitable suit for an event, you went here and there to shop for that suit. You didn’t get just ONE suit, but a few! You bought it, and then think you don’t like it/not suitable/whatever and you went out to shop for another. This process repeats itself in cycles a few times. Damn! Talk about saving money when you bought so many clothes unnecessarily just for ONE event on ONE night! NOTHING TO SAY!!! You boiled water to bath when you got sick that time, you used electricity to boil that water right? Isn’t that SPENDING too???!!!" But so far i haven’t said it… should I? Or should i just keep it to myself?

My Views

1. I read a report in The Star weeks back that UM is increasing its intake of foreign students in its bid to improve its international rating… WHY are they doing this? Shouldn’t they be improving on other things like facilities and teaching qualities/standards?

2. I’ve come across a few people here in Sarawak that called the name in front of the Chinese names as "Christian" name. I think this is so WRONG. It should be termed ENGLISH name.

Point of argue: Look at the west especially America and Britain and other countries with English names. NOT all of them are Christians. Those whom are not Christians are not bearing names in other kinds of language, or the language of the area in which the religions originate from.

It’s great to be back in taiping. So far i’ve managed to eat some food i haven’t got a chance to eat in sarawak. Well, at least, kuching.Dsc00048

wan tan mee (dry) (from stall at plaza perbandaran)

Dsc00049

kai si min (from yew lee)

Dsc00046_e

teh-c-peng (from plaza perbandaran)

Yeah, few examples are as above. Dry wan tan mee with BLACK sauce. You can’t find this in kuching. The "wan tan mee" there is just kolo mee noodle added with wan tan mee toppings. And no, no black sauce… Next, kai si min!! Yeah!! My favourite at Yew Lee shop. NEVER found it at the moment in kuching. Kai si min basically means chicken soup noodle with shreds of chicken meat. If the tone of "si" is pronounced wrongly, the direct translation would be "chicken shit mee". As for the teh-c-peng, well, it’s just almost a normal one. Just that i like that one from that coffee stall. Another that i wanna mention but hadn’t got the photo of it(cause well, i was literally the only customer when i went, with the seller and his gang at the table next to me so… i felt kinda weird if they would see me taking photo of the food… =.=") is the chee cheong fun at "durian poh"(morning). Well, this chee cheong fun has red sauce. Again this never seen in kuching yet(up to this point of my life).

Well, as i said earlier, it’s back to cheap food! yeah! fried noodles complete with eggs, cockles, and prawn for only RM2.00! Tell me which part of kuching i can find this price for the same thing! Yes, although the prices of some food are slightly increase, it’s still cheaper. My regular stall increased the price of a roll of popiah to RM1.00. So what? It’s RM1.50 per roll in kuching!!! I don’t wanna talk about the rest…

Another thing i wanna say is, the downside of driving is that you can’t admirer or look for long at all those interesting events, incidents and objects that are around your car when driving. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD!
